Submission Guidelines:
we love the ordinary, ethereal, melodramatic, magical, theatrical art and writing! send us your hidden stories, your heart-shaped obsessions, your fears, your dreams. [mid-heaven is a cancer so, take that as you will]
Are you what we’re looking for?
we publish poetry — 1-5 poems in a single doc, please
we publish prose — < 5,000 words [if it’s more, it better be really good]
we publish visual art — photography, illustration, collage, video, multimedia, graphics, etc.
all work must be completely original
all work must be unpublished prior to submission [this does include social media and personal blogs]
we seek to amplify creative work by BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and/or otherwise marginalized contributors.
we hold the right to make copyedits to pieces if accepted. authors will be notified of those potential edits prior to publication.
any submissions that involve racism, antisemitism, classism, sexism, transphobia, misogyny, ableism, fat-shaming, homophobia, violence, etc will NOT be accepted and we will reject future submissions from that author.
How to submit?
send all writing submissions to midheavenmagazine@gmail.com and attach your doc, docx, and pdf [please send both if your piece has special formatting]
we love times new roman and double space for format.
in the body of your email, please include a short third-person bio that includes any websites or social media accounts that are relevant to you.
for visual art submissions, please include an artist statement.
please include trigger warnings in the body of the email.
How long till you hear from us?
we publish new issues quarterly on the first day of every august, october, december, february, april, and june!
since our 2022 rebrand, we take 14-30 days to respond. if it’s been after 31 days please inquire.
if your submission is declined, feel free to submit to us again.
if you’re accepted, please wait until one full issue cycle to submit again.
we currently do not provide feedback for declined and accepted work.
rights, payment, & other lovelier things
we reserve first serial rights. once your piece is published, all rights revert back to you.
we ask that if it is published elsewhere in the future, please credit mid-heaven magazine as its initial publication.
we do not take edits after your work is accepted
Visual Submissions
after your email submission, if decide to move forward with your piece, you will email the files through WETRANSFER!

please put your name and the type of submission in the message option [E.G. Your Name — Film Photography Submission] along with the title of the piece and your artist statement and bio!
please provide an artist statement with your work.
